No commentsThe Robbits Project

“The project intends to investigate whether an interactive object can trigger specific behaviors and feelings from a human audience by imitating a living creature. The core of installation is a fragile social community of autonomous mobile robots. Referring to the fact that electronics are man-made, the robots seem “helpless” and stay immobile when being left alone. As long as no person is nearby, the robots are dawning in hibernation. But when people start to gather around them, keeping some distance, the robots wake up and begin to move. The Robbits’ looks, sounds and movements are intended to present them as harmless, friendly and cute little creatures, tempting their audience to come closer or even to touch. If people cross an invisible border and get too close to a robot, it has to “die” a sudden death. Robbits offers a play with proximity and distance, with thresholds and invisible borders. While playing with Robbits, people should feel a need to communicate on how to approach the robots. They have to observe and correct each other’s distances to see the robots moving. “
